To commemorate the legendary race horse, Man O' War's one hundredth birthday, the brewers at Alltech's Lexington Brewing company devise a golden wheat ale that has strong British overtones but with a uniquely American experimental mindset.
Mostest Wheat Ale pours a golden amber ale and with a moderate wheaten haze. Capped with a skirt of eggshell froth, its creamy structure pulls the scent of caramel, biscuit and fresh baking angel food cake. A floral but earthy hop character gives the scent an English hop foreground. Its taste is malty sweet with caramel, honey and all the while fulfilling the promises of angel food cake.
As the ale travels across the middle palate, the sweetness shows a slow resolve, eventually weaving in the fruit esters of orange and apricot for a taste of marmalade and fruit rollup. Bready wheat adds a spongy texture that's redolent of circus peanut candy before the floral hops turn broad and woodsy across the finish.
Medium bodied and trending malty sweet, the balance of hops approach even keel status before backing off and allowing the white wheat to keep the lead in a medium long finish and with the aftertaste of soft woodsy spice and a kiss of orange peel to close.
