Golden brown ale with two fingers of foamy head. Pleasant aroma consisting of creamy oranges and pine. Has a flavor that's heavy on pine with some hints of orange, the aftertaste is leafy with some citrus rind. Very creamy body with a nice kick from the hops. This is a great IPA.

Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company invited homebrewers / AHA members to participat in this Pro-Am event. Eleven brewers participated and this beer was selected for large-scale brewing by the brewery and submission to the GABF 2008, Pro-Am division. This English IPA, behind the recipe formation of... well me, Kevin Patterson, unfortunately was not selected for an award. A big thanks to Adam, Matt, Jeremy, and Mark at the brewery for this amazing opportunity.
Enough of the aimless plugs; let's get to the beer... Upon the first sip, the flavor is similar to the standard Kentcuky ale- with a light caramel, malty flavor. Except this beer is better attenuated and is not as sweet in the malt profile. The hops are much more agressive than the KY Ale with a blend of Fuggles and East Kent Goldings throughout, acheiving 70 IBU's. Even the look of the beer is the standard rich copper hue of the KY Ale, except with a mild haze, but otherwise great head formation, retention and lacing. The flavor of the hops are moderate, careful not to dominate the English malts. Well balance and very drinkable. Alcohols give the beer a thinning quality and compliment the dryness of the hops well. The aroma hops are also moderate and could use a bit more boldness with the floral notes. Finishes with a long dry caramel, hoppy-pine note.
