Thanks to jcwattsrugger for bringing this back for me from his trip to California...
22 oz. bomber, poured into a tulip glass:
Pours deep golden with a thin white head that almost immediately becomes a bubbly, swirling white patch. Little lacing sticks.
The smell is musty - some maltiness - some fruitiness - a light touch of hay - a bit of alcohol. I was going to give it a slightly lower score, as it is not thrilling, especially with the odd mustiness, but enough of the components are there to give it the benefit of the doubt of being "average"...
The taste is malty - with the lingering misplaced mustiness. Some sour mixes in with the sweetness. Some solvent alcohol comes through. Hops are scant..but a hint is there - unfortunately, more in a tinny/metallic way, even at room temp. Began chilled - didn't change much as it warmed...Some fruitiness comes through in a semi-sweet finish.
Rather odd feel - light to medium bodied, yet something sticky/syrupy about it. Too thickish for the style.
A mediocre stab at an American interpretation of the style - much better ones out there..and, not even nearly in same category/world as Belgians such as Duvel...
