With a near-black ruby color, it boasts a very nice, chocolaty mocha taste and aroma with a great mouthfeel for a stout. It’s very balanced, with a slight combination of dark chocolate sweet and roasty dry, and tastes like really good mocha chocolate milk! This is similar to Trader Joe’s Stockyard Stout, except the Old Goat is sweeter than the Stockyard! For a much stronger and varietal version of this beer, put the excellent Dark Truth Stout from Boulevard Brewing Company next on your list.

Ordered a 4oz. sample of this prior to lunch at the brewpub today. Following review based on notes taken at that time.
Appearance: Pitch black body passes no light, not even at the outermost edges of the glass - especially surprising considering the tight diameter of this 4oz. sampling glass. A dense, creamy, brown head resides on top and retains very well. Lacing is pretty weak, but otherwise this looks damn good.
Smell: Sweet berries (raspberry and blackberry, in particular), cocoa powder, oats, and light char. The overall aroma starts out intensely sweet - reminding me of amateur homebrew - then finishes on a mildly acidic note.
Taste: The taste is far more balanced the smell. Blackberries and raspberries greet the tongue. Cocoa, oats, and roasted barley take over from there, leading into a lightly bitter, lightly acidic, and completely pleasant aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Good amount of body - might have been better if it were a little heavier. Arrived at my table a bit cooler than I was expecting (for a cask ale), though the low, soft carbonation was there. Simple, smooth, and refreshing.
Overall: This is a passable oatmeal stout; certainly not a noteworthy one. If it weren't on cask, I probably wouldn't have liked it as much - I absolutely love cask porters and oatmeal stouts.

On cask at San Marcos Brewery.
A: Black with a creamy tan cap.
S: Oatmeal and dark chocolate with biscuit and nuts. Nicely balanced. Touch of molasses and a whisper of smoke.
T: Toasted bread with biscuit and oatmeal. Dark chocolate melds with nuts and molasses. Malt is faintly roasted. No alcohol is evident in the smooth finish.
M: Upper medium body with upper low carbonation and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.
Overall: An easy drinking cask oatmeal stout. Nothing flashy here but this is solid stuff.

Hand pump beer engine served in an imperial pint glass.
A: Heavy 2 finger khaki, foamy head. Dark reddish brown and some light penetrating. Doesn't look like a heavy beer at all. Great head retention and huge lacing.
S: A good amount of sweetness and roasty scents. Picking up a little chocolate with a lot of bread and brown sugar.
T: Sweet! This definitely caught me off guard as many oatmeal stouts are more on the dry side. This was full of sugary goodness. It tasted almost like a bowl of oatmeal that you loaded up with brown sugar. Definitely added some flavor to an otherwise watery stout style. There were some light coffee and chocolate notes as well, and finished pretty dry.
M: Average for the style and cask. Velvety with minimal carbonation.
O: An above average oatmeal stout that I would probably drink again.
