On tap at Fattey Beer Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a very small head, and not much lacing.
This smells reasonably boozy, with roasted malt, dark chocolate, a touch of coconut, and a lot of oak.
This is pretty solid, with a very heavy barrel character to it. A lot of times you will hear people say that a barrel aged stout hides the ABV well. This is very much not the case with this one. There’s a lot of oaky bourbon here, caramel, boozy spice. This would probably be less boozy if there was more coconut here – it’s a fairly mild sweet toastiness here. I don’t mind the lesser emphasis on adjunct here, as the barrel character, while intense, is definitely nice.
This is medium bodied, not super thick, but not thin, with a long spicy finish.
A smaller pour of this probably would have been better, but I still quite enjoyed it.
