i did not know these guys were doing sours until i saw this one. its a simple but well enough done beer with a great expression of azacca hops happening. tastes to me more like a kettle sour type than a truly wild ale, as there is a stark acidic sharpness to this and almost no funk or maturity to it, clean and young, indicative of a well done front end souring process rather than something slower working on the wild side. simple golden malt base, light body and low alcohol with good carbonation and a pretty straight ahead approach. the sourness is clean, which is nice for a first or second sour effort, quite well refined and without any off flavors at all. the hops are the main flavor agent though, as its more acid than flavor from the lacto. the azacca has notes of grapefruit and pineapple and tangerine, and is super fresh, mostly late kettle and dry hopped i would think, as bitterness is minimal but aroma is through the roof. this is whats in style now, these drinkable tart dry hopped little summery things, and this seems to be following marching orders rather than doing anything inventive in its own right, but the beer is a lot better than many of its peers, and marks a step forward for these guys in my opinion. nice for the hot weather.
