Ol’ Trusty is a Minnesota throwback to the classic beer that’s ready to sit in the bottom of the fishing boat or stocked in the fridge for grilling, washing the car or kicking back. Put plainly, Ol’ Trusty tastes like the beer you remember, and costs like it too! Ol’ Trusty is thrifty as heck.
“With Ol Trusty, we’re not chasing trends or creating flavor profiles. We’re establishing a baseline,” says Matt Johnson, Owner of Able Seedhouse + Brewery. “It was important we got this right, so we tested it out in the taproom last year. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Ol’ Trusty is one of our fastest growing beers by volume and remains the top pick among Able staff. We hope this trend continues throughout our market and consumers have a beer they can trust. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re missing until you take a step back to easy drinking, beer flavored beer.” Johnson adds.
“Ol’ Trusty is a very light beer that, unlike others, is 100% barley malt and no fillers,” says Able Head Brewer Bobby Blasey. “It’s crazy refreshing with just a sprinkle of hops for a light fruitiness. If you like beer, you’ll like this.”

Great light lager, had with a chicken dinner out at a restaurant. Great middle flavor, some light aromatics and middle taste that is just perfect with food. Definitely having again, truly a lighter ABV beer with flavor.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Clear, pale gold colored body. Fizzy head quickly disappears. Has a moderate rising bubble display. No lacing
Aroma of barley malt that smells like corn. With a whiff of floral and fruity hops.
Taste is a little sweet, similar to sweet corn. Has a ghost presence of fruity hops. No real aftertaste.
Thin mouth feel. Good carbonation.
This is a malt beverage that quickly passes through the mouth, without much of a presentation. Good thirst quencher.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium to bright golden color with a bubbling body and a strong white head. SRM of 7. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of lemon citrus, cream, milk, and creamed corn, pale malts, and some yeast and bread on the end. (4.25)
Flavor: The flavor follows with moderate flavors of pale but earthy malts, honey, some lemon citrus and flower. Finishes with a light and bready sweetness. (4.25)
Feel: Medium-bodied. Strong carbonation and yeast. Finishes flavorful, but dry. (4.00)
Compared to Bud Light 5/17/21: Pours a darker color. Stronger aroma and flavor. More lemon citrus, cream and creamed corn, flower, honey, and bread sweetness.
Compared to Spaten Lager 6/27/21: Pours identical color. Stronger aroma. More toasted German bread malt and honey. Less pale malts and crisp cracker malt. Winner: Ol' Trusty.
Overall: What a delicious lager we have here! This is no normal light American adjunct lager. It drinks much more like a helles. They are truly short-selling themselves here. It has great aromas and flavors of lemon citrus, cream, milk, and honeyflower. Lots of honey malt smoothness. Smooth, clean, and delicious. (Final Rating: 4.36)

A terrible beer. It looks and feels fine, but smells and tastes like watered-down chicken noodle soup.

Drank from a 16 ounce can. Scores are based on the style.
Look - What a nice can. Simple, stoic, and stately. The Ol' Trusty crest looks great, the colors are appealing, the matte finish feels good in the hand, and I enjoy the inclusion of a curated Spotify playlist. This is how you make a can.
Smell - Very sweet and vegetal, somewhat like canned peas. Slightly earthy but not too much. Far more aroma than any other light beer I've had.
Taste - 100% canned peas on the first sip. It's unmistakable. This goes on for a while, but about halfway down the can, it turns into a more pleasant sweet malty flavor. Much more robust and "dirty" than your typical mass market light beer, but the start was rough.
Feel - Nice easygoing thin body with almost the perfect level of effervescence. Simple and drinkable.
Overall - This beer is weird in that every one is the same experience. It starts like a can of peas and ends in a fairly balanced, enjoyable beer. Maybe it prefers being slightly warmer than fridge cold? I also never tried it from a glass, maybe that would change things up. That'll be for the next 12 pack I guess.
