L- Black, even held in front of a halogen lamp. Poured with a brief 2mm deep tan head.
S- Deep rich/fruity, it does indeed remind me of 'Syrup of Figs'!
T- I get a deep cocoa note, hints of smoke, and then back into an earthy fruit note; the figs? There is a relatively mild and slightly sour hoppy flourish into the finish which reminds me of a black IPA. After a few sips I suddenly wonder if I just got a Coke facet too - IDK, but there is a lot going on.
F- The sour/hoppy finish balance this beer out quite well. Then again it doesn't feel it's 8%ABV to me, more like say 6.5%. It's neither refreshing, not meatily rewarding on the palate via it's mouth-feel.
O- I haven't read the small-print on the can so the text/rating^ is based on the beer's name and my impressions only. It's interesting and certainly different but I don't think I'd wish to drink it again, to repeat, there's a lot going on and I find it rather confused.
440ml can Bought from TremblingMadness/York/UK for home delivery. BB: 07/12/2021
ps FWIW I blind-tasted it on my wife, no clues/cues at all. She enjoyed it a bit more than me, but guessed the ABV% as 6%.
Now to read the can: Ahhh.... contains: Barley, wheat, oats, figs, almonds + vanilla - no surprise it comes over as complex.
