Oddly for a tropical country, Belize has several stouts available. As a US expat, I cannot stomach Guinness in this weather; Belikin Stout is nothing special; and all of the lagers here are either adjuncts—and corn in my beer is a non-starter—or a double-what-I've-ever-paid-before craft label out of Placencia.
(BBC also makes +501 Lager, which has proven decent on the rare occasions it's not skunked [clear bottles, poor storage].)
So, despite my inability to rate it any higher, and absent any better options, +501 Stout is my current go-to.
Look: cola. Literally. Any head on an aggressive pour disappears completely.
Smell: not much. A drinker really has to work to find the bare hints of chocolate and toast.
Taste: cola, licorice, and mildly sweet hops on the finish. This is the primary reason this beer is better than most: try to find hops in pretty much any other beer in Belize.
Feel: pretty thin for a stout, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in the tropics.
Overall: a decent quaff, comparatively sessionable.
