a decent double ipa, but man, it benefits little from being this strong. i mean, its over the top, this would be just as good, and in my opinion better around 8% abv. there isnt enough grain weight here to balance the high alcohol, so its very exposed even right when the beer is poured cold, and it only gets more gnarly as it warms up. its a shame too, because they have done a nice job with the hop profile here, a good mix of varietals with a strong citrus aroma and a pretty pungent butter grapefruit flavor, i was a little bummed they let the abv run like crazy. my guess is there is a dextrose addition to the kettle here, there almost has to be, with so little grain flavor or body to this, they had to get the fermentables from somewhere. i am not against the technique, but i am thinking they over did it by about half here. good fresh hop quality though, nice bitterness in the finish, a somewhat lighter body and fine carbonation. i can see the appeal, but it seems a little sloppy from a technical standpoint.
