It has been over a year since I met Bruno, and since then his portfolio of beers has widened into a new brewery name and untried styles. For a cold night like this, I hope that Orfeu Negro can help warm me up. From a 310 ml bottle, on to the beer:
It pours as thick as motor oil and so dark. In the glass, it looks like a beer that is nearly flat; just a whisker of tanned lace around the edges. Thick legs of beer stick around the glass for a moment. In the pessimism of being flat, the beer has a very attractive aroma. It smells like licorice, smoke, vanilla, roasted malts, and slightly fruity.
This beer feels almost flat as I first taste it, but my goodness it tastes good! I am hit with toasted coconut and marshmallow. There's just a touch of cocoa. Modest roasted malt, vague esters, plums, come about. It's so complex! Come to think of it, maybe the beer is meant to be so low in carbonation. In addition, the rich full bodied mouthfeel compliments the strong taste very well, and makes me overlook what little carbonation exists. Also complimenting is the alcohol, which at 12% ABV, is difficult to find.
Color me impressed. Like Cafuza, Orfeu Negro strikes black gold. An absolute must try when in Brazil. Thanks for the bottle Ciro!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
