Flat, viscous, pitch black pour indicative of every Dogma stout I’ve tried. Syrupy and settling with no present carbonation.
This nose is difficult to pinpoint. Very intriguing, very different. Predominant aromas of rich chocolate and dark fruits make way for clear cassia/cinnamon components. The combination of baker’s chocolate, fruit, and baking spices makes for a good complexity and intriguing balance.
On the palate, the tonka really stands out more for me, with the chocolate much more bitter and similar to baking chocolate than the predominantly sweet, rich aromas. This contrast to the nose helps to bring about a different array of flavors, with an almond-like nuttiness, with hints of clove, cinnamon, and raisins. An all-around interesting beer.
Not quite as much viscosity as other Dogma stouts, but still very thick and syrupy with that stickiness hanging around long after the experience. Mild boozy warmth on the tail, but this is one of their milder stout offerings in my opinion.
