Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a dark amber color with a two finger white foamy head that glistened and then fell off at a good pace. Light messy lace ran around the glass here and there. The aroma presented some sweet and roasty nuts, sweet caramel/toffee malt base, grassy to earthy hops, light cake/sweet biscuits, butterscotch, dark bread, dried leaves, sweet wood and a little bit of milk chocolate. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side and developed a subtle nutty roast more as it warmed. Aftertaste was sticky sweet nuts. Finish was the sticky sweet nuts and butterscotch. The palate was medium bodied with a good almost sipping sort of quality to it. Carbonation felt on par. ABV felt good. Overall, nice doppelbock to have on a chilly Spring evening. I’d have this one again, might even be good in beer bread.
