Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a light amount of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather strong of a grainy and bready smell mixed with some aromas of a sweet caramel. Along with these smells comes a touch of hay and a tiny bit of citrus.
Taste – The taste begins with a doughy and malty flavor with a little bit of caramel and citrus. As the taste advances some earthy and herbal hops begin working their way onto the tongue, all while the graininess gets a bit more pronounced. The caramel seems to fade a little bit all while a tiny bit of a metallic taste comes to the tongue. With all the flavor transitions that occur throughout, one is left with a taste akin to a blend of a more dank hopped lager taste with that of a malt liquor.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium to slightly thicker for a lager with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the style the opposite (high carb and lower thickness) would have been more appropriate in making it a more easy drinker.
Overall – It’s OK, but nothing that outstanding. It’s a bit too heavy on the palate for the style for me.
