Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep amber color with a one finger head of billowy off white foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a good sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is massive of a tropical fruit smell, being heaviest of a pineapple and mango, but containing some tangerine and papaya as well. Along with these smells comes a little bit of an herbal hop smell and some pine as well as a touch of a sweet ruby red grapefruit.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor that has a bit of a tropical fruit taste that was detected in the nose. Upfront there is also some flavors of a grapefruit hop as well as a touch of pine. Overall the taste is much lighter in sweetness than I would have anticipated from the nose, with it getting even more light in sweetness as the taste advances. The fruitiness really drops out quite a bit all while some more bitter grapefruit hop and other herbal hop comes to the tongue. In the end, with all the transitions that occur in the taste, one is left with a somewhat dryer and moderately hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is slightly more chewy with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the mix of more bready tastes mixed with a lighter fruit flavors and the moderate hoppiness the feel is pretty nice and makes for a good media for all the flavors to be well appreciated.
Overall – A decent brew overall, but nothing all that out of the ordinary. Worth a try, but it probably won’t blow you away…
