Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with a big billowy head of brown colored foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strong of a roasted malt aroma mixed with a decent showing of coffee. Mixed with these comes some sweeter smells of milk chocolate and a bit of caramel. A touch of vanilla and molasses round out the smell, giving a nice chocolate-coffee like smell to the brew overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet roasted malt flavor that is accentuated with flavors of milk chocolate and caramel. At the start there is a moderate coffee flavor which grows weaker as the taste moves all. While the coffee gets lighter, the milk chocolate gets stronger and is joined by some tastes of more vanilla sweetness. At the same time the roastiness gets stronger as well, taking on some flavors of char and a bit of smoke, and leaves one with a rather nice roasted, not too coffee potent, but pleasant stout taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the stout nature of the brew the feel is great and makes for a nice easy sipping and taste complementing feel.
Overall – While not super heavy in coffee flavor, the tastes are very good. A very flavorful and highly approachable stout. Quite nice.
