Another good one from these cats, this time a smaller test type batch. So many vanilla beers lately are just way overdone, out of proportion, and sticky sweet from taking the vanilla too far. this is a nice change of pace, as the vanilla is more of an accent flavor, and its great with the bitterness of the roasted barley in here. literally no caramel malt sweetness in the middle here at all, no caramelized sugars in the finish, dry on the grain front all the way through, and so the vanilla ends up as a contrast to the bitterness here, floral authentic vanilla and then the char and roast of the barley, very little else in between, but its not missed. i think the beer is distinct for that reason, and i hope they ramp up production and keep it around, because it is a little different. smooth in feel, not super carbonated, maybe a little less body than it could stand for its abv, and it finishes quickly, which usually i like, but here i wouldnt mind tasting these flavors a little longer after the swallow. seems like these guys are going to continue experimenting, and if they keeping nailing them like this, i wont be the least bit surprised. great cold weather drink here.
