Werewolves of Cambridge is an approachable Porter brewed with English pale malt and a wide range of crystal malts. Leading with aromas of caramel, coffee, and cocoa, this deep brown ale is medium-bodied and smooth, balancing sweet and roasty malt character with a trace of piney bitterness. Deliciously drinkable with plenty of toasty, chocolatey richness, this beer is bound to get you howling. Named after Warren Zevon’s classic hit, Werewolves of London. Awooo!

From an undated 16 fl. oz. can that was sampled July 2, 2022.
Handsome appearance of dark brown tones to about black with a modest, fading back tan head.
The aroma brings out roasted caramel malts and vanilla or cream at first whiff. And then I pick up a slight pear or raisin sensation and some good old earth.
Low-medium mouthfeel that is very creamy and smooth,.
The taste is roasted dark caramel malts, sweet vanilla or cream, and here I think I get a touch of booze. Nothing offensive but I can taste something like behind the sweet forward characters. Overall, a Porter that I could enjoy frequently.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with off white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had subtle coffee notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with subtle roast and dark chocolate presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

The ABV is now 7.9% but it isn't boozy. As most of the reviewers wrote, the beer is medium bodied, malty, on the sweeter side, some chocolate notes. The one distinctive characteristic is the piney hop notes towards the finish. This is a key piece for this beer, for better or worse, I couldn't nail it down, but on the Lamplighter website they reference a piney hop note and that's it. The nose has some bretty yeast aromas and these come out as the beer settles. It's a little odd but it's part of the beer. I think I prefer the London Calling porter just a bit more, but Werewolves is definitely more robust than London Calling and both have their merits.

A porter on steroids. Full body, smooth MF, chocolate, coffee, cocoa nibs, and roasted malt. Very well done!

I believe they updated this brew since last year. Has a higher ABV. Canned 10/01/2020
Poured into imperial pint glass. Dark brown body with a finger+ tan head. OK retention.
Roasty malt with cacao nibs and toffee on the nose.
Taste of coffee, dark chocolate, and Heath bar crunch. Malt sweetness reminiscent of sticky toffee pudding.
Body is a little on the thin side with medium carbonation. Finish is smooth enough. I’m a big toffee and salted caramel person; I think that flavor profile papers over a lot of weaknesses for me.
All in all very enjoyable. I’d be happy to return to it.

Big ABV for an American porter. Is it an imperial porter, perhaps? Well, I ended up pouring into an English pint glass.
The appearance was a fairly dark brown/dark amber color along the sides of the glass with a subtle eggshell white foamy head, about a finger's worth. Subtle stringy lace along the sides.
The aroma had some cocoa powder, dark chocolate nibs, caramel and toffee malts, some roasted nuts, a little bit of coffee and a slight whiff of clean sweet earth.
The flavor leaned towards a dry roasted earthy toned sweet biscuity/bready malty toastiness. Mellow aftertaste of clean roasted nuts, dark chocolate and caramel malts.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation with some stickiness but acceptable. Finishes semi-smooth with some dryness and cookie to toasty-like quality.
Overall, pretty nice as an English porter, but didn't seem hoppy or coffee roasty forward to be an American styled one. I'd still come back to. And the ABV is a bit higher than normal for the style.

I really thought I had reviewed this, but oh well, guess I'll just drink it again. I have to listen to Warren Zevon while drinking this. NO can date
POurs a dark foamy brown colored head with great retention, looks a little like a dish of beef chow mein... wait, that wasn't supposed to be there. Nice soapy lacing, dark just about black color with mahogany light sneaking through, the beer's hair is perfect
Nose-ahooooo, oops, nice roasted malts, toasted brown malts with some chocolate and cocoa, a little roasted coffee, a touch creamy malt, and a hint of alcohol or solventy note surprisingly, actually the more it warms I get a little isopropyl alcohol like, the kind you'd buy at Trader Vicks, but it's faint
Taste brings rich cocoaand some chocolate, lots of toasted grainy malts with caramelized bread crust, very rich bread crust, but also a bit fruity interestingly, lots of fruity esters like Guinness kinda thing, sweet chocolate caramel candy, a little roasted malt and coffee but not much, rich fruity chocolaty finish with a touch of alcohol and little bitter spicy hops
Mouth is med bod but richer and creamy, higher creamy foamy carb, I'd like to meet it's tailor
Overall pretty interesting porter, fermented a bit warmer probably, which brought out some interesting fruity esters and a little alcohol note on the nose, but still enjoyable for a werewolves of Cambridge, ahooooo

Pours a rich ruby brown with no head whatsoever. Smells of dark fruit, roasted malts, and caramel. The taste brings burnt notes, huge caramel and molasses flavor, and a touch of bitterness with a dry finish. Very thin bodied, kind of unpleasant. This is a great tasting beer, but the body is too lacking for me.

Heavy yet smooth - tough balancing act with fruit, coffee, molasses working together so nicely.
