Éponine is a Belgian Blond aged in Brett-inoculated oak barrels for five months. Complex characteristics of oak and grape must balance with notes of cedar, meyer lemon, and grape. Slightly tart and deliciously fruity.

Pours a hazy cloudy bright amber gold orange with a creamy white foam head with decent retention. Smells like buttery oaky chardonnay white wine, vanilla, some Belgian yeast notes, mild banana, peppery clove spice, hint of apricot, pear, white grape, leathery barnyardy brett funk, caramelized golden malty grains, and some floral earthy herbal grassy hops. Tastes like buttery chardonnay white wine, oak barrel, hints of vanilla, lemon, mild tartness and acidity, some fruity esters like apple, banana, apricot, pear, pineapple, leathery brett funk, touch of hay, phenolic clove spice, caramelized bready golden malty grains, with hints of floral earthy grassy hops. Feels medium plus bodied, fairly thick, creamy with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a really nice chardonnay wine barrel aged Belgian Blond ale with brett.

This delicious beer pours a beautiful, hazy gold into the glass and has a thin, fluffy head that sticks around for a while. It smells fruity—notes of papaya and other tropical fruits can be detected—but tastes a bit like butter and orange, and its creaminess makes it a fully satisfying drinking experience.

500ml undated bottle. Pours a slightly hazy honey gold with disappearing head but some lacing is left. Label says "Belgian Blond ale conditioned for five months in chardonnay barrels with our house strain of Brettanomyces." Smell is a little funky barnyard with some oak barrel. Taste matches smell pretty much, funky hay with a dose of oak chardonnay. Feel is low carbonation but slightly creamy with that full funky brett taste before and after. Overall, this is not very sour at all in case you were wondering, but a good blend of the notes of brett funk and fruity oaky chardonnay barrel. However, at the high price of 13 a bottle, it is questionable to recommend trying this even once. Maybe... I think the Ommegang Gnome beers might be a better buy in a comparable style.

From the brewery: Belgian blonde aged in brett barrels. Sweet nasturtium, Meyer lemon, cedar, grape.
Golden color and nearly clear. Small head with spotty lace on the glass.
Very sour nose from brett aging.
Smooth feel with a rich body and a above normal carbonation. The flavor belies the sour smell. This beer defies categorizing as it is not strongly Belgian and not very sour and not very blonde, but it is very good.
