Brief, rather large bubbled head. It reduces to minor rim bubbles within a half minute. Tiny initial spots on the glass which do not last. The liquid is deep, dark brown where light doesn't pass even along the edge.
Excellent semisweet chocolate nose with only a dab of chalk. Very rich aroma. Some alcohol.
Rich body and flavor which is enhanced by the lack of carbonation. Boozy throughout the tasting. The taste starts off like sweet cocoa. The swallow brings the apex of the alcohol warmth. The aftertaste has this feel dissipate slowly. The cocoa aspects remain throughout the taste as well.

Pours a tan foamy bubbly semi creamy fair 1 finger head with moderate retention, fades pretty slowly, decent lacing, super dark just about black beer
nose is very nice, loads of everything, tons of dark chocolate and cocoa, some vanilla and bourbon barrel notes, fair amount of bourbon, super dark chocolate and some baking spices, even cinnamon and raw vanilla, some roast and coffee, little fudge, a bit of an earthy spice character that could be the barrel spices, alcohol, and dark chocolate but also could be a hint of onset of infection, not sure yet
Taste brings loads of lush creamy thick chocolate, dark chocolate and cocoa, raw cocoa and like cocoa nibs blended into this, thick creamy and lush at the same time, with mild roast and coffee, coffee cream, a little caramel fudge and toffee, plenty of vanilla, raw vanilla and some barrel oak vanilla, as well as mild baking spices and even a touch of cinnamon again somehow, as well as mild alcohol warmth and smooth flavor, some bourbon, less than the nose but decent bourbon juice, thick fudge and raw cocoa late with a bit more warming alcohol and mild sticky finish, little coffee cream lingering as well
Mouth is fuller bod, rich lush creamy like, mild warming smooth alcohol that gets a little hot as it warms which might be a little too hot, medium carb
Overall very solid porter, loads of chocolate and cocoa, nice roast and coffee, great vanilla and barrel notes with decent bourbon especially the nose, alcohol brings some nice characters but gets a little hot, very enjoyable, and don't think there is an infection onset, I think it was just the unique combination of spices, bourbon and alcohol
