Reviewed as part of BJCP training. 8A Munich Dunkel. Canned 1/14/19
Pours a tan fizzy foamy almost 1 finger head that retains well, bit of lacing, super dark almost opaque but slightly clear mahogany brown color, bit dark
Nose some toasted brown malts, a little bready but not the level of bread crust of typical, some mild chocolate and caramel, clean fermentation, a little almost cola syrup like but not quite there, touch nutty, no hops, but pretty light and boring
Taste more of the toasted malts but a bit of toasted bread crust like, a little caramel toffee and a bit nutty as well, almost syrupy sweet but not quite there, hops add a touch of herbal spicy notes, a bit sweet syrupy like, pumpernickel bread, toasted nuts, drier mild sticky finish, lingering hop bitterness, lingering sticky and a bit astringent too somehow
Mouth is medium to a little lighter bodied, almost syrupy but not quite there, medium carb, a little astringent on the finish somehow
Overall meh, one of the few from Lamplighter I'm not that big on, perhaps I'm expecting more from the style and this was more of an American adaptation of the style but somehow falls far from it, it lacks the malt complexity, lacks the hops, gets a little syrupy sweet and astringent, just meh

Poured from a can, fresh from the brewery.
Looks a nice dark amber brown with a tan head that fades to a spotty layer.
Smells and tastes great! Brown malts, dark bread dough, a bit of honey and chocolate. Low hops, big malts.
Really flavorful and full-bodied for a low abv beer.
Glad I picked it up!

Filling with so much rich flavor in such a light beer. Toasted malt aroma leads to rich notes of roasted chestnuts, pumpernickel brown bread, some caramel and slight chocolate. Smooth luscious creamy mouthfeel, medium plus bodied.

Chocolate, toasted grain, coffee and roasted malt. Smooth sipper with a lower carb feel. Semi dry finish. This is coming off more brown ale than traditional dunkel. It's easy drinking for sure.

This is a collaboration with Night Shift Brewing of Everett, MA; according to the Lamplighter website, this is 20 IBUs with a profile of Caraway, Chestnut, and Caramel; good Dunkel, was enjoyed with friends at Easter dinner
