Not too sour, reminds me of a light red wine

An absolutely brain-bustingly good wild ale. I don't give ratings like this lightly, but I've literally only had one better beer in my life.
Is a dark, subtle red. Reminds me of a Flanders red ale. Smell is very similar to that with a lot more fruit.
The taste is extraordinarily complex and develops as it warms. The most persistent flavors are raisin/date/plum/fig, raspberry, grape marmalade, and wood from the barrels.
Other flavors include grape, grape marmalade, dried mango, raisin bread, kiwi, teriyaki sauce, balsamic, bbq sauce, extra sour mandarin oranges, eel sauce, cherry cordials, leather, brown sugar, apple/banana, graham cracker, caramel, and mulled peach. I'm no sommelier or anything - all these flavors just jump out at you. Very, very long finish. You don't want to have any food with this.
You really have to try it for yourself to understand, but obviously avoid it if you hate slightly sour/funky beers. Lamplighter's such a young brewery but this beer tastes like it survived 3 medieval invasions and both world wars. It's a bit pricey but you and a friend can split it for a nearly unparalleled beer experience.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
