My son loves the baby shark song, so I had to get this. Can date is smudged
Pours a large foamy bubbly pillowy head with good retention, soapy lacing, hazy bLond colour
Nose fresh hops, floral, grassy, citrus zest, grapefruit, pine, light stone fruit, hint of malt
Taste very light grainy malt, big hop grassy floral, light pine and spicy herbal, medium bitterness, light citrus fruit, spicy hop lupulin powder like fresh hop comes, dry finish medium high bitterness,
Mouth is med to lighter bod, medium carb, a bit thin
Overall not bad, not much balance more like west coast style ipa, good fresh hops, light and drinkable, a bit thin

Hazy, whitish straw color. Decent starting head which settles to rim bubbles. One offering of a ring lace. Infrequent bubbles thereafter.
Dry weedy aroma Initially.
The flavor continues the profile of the smell. The body leans thin and the carbonation is elevated. The finish seems raw to me, harsh. The aftertaste fades rather quickly considering the swallow.

It's a good thing this beer clocks in at under the normal "session IPA" ABV and uses some fun new hops, because I probably wouldn't have bought it if it didn't distance itself from this silly meme/concept/whatever-it-is ...wait... are you trying to tell me that this might only be the way it is because of the trendy Baby Shark thing (that's reaching the end of its trendiness)? Ugh, so be it. Here's a review...
Pouring a pretty typical NEIPA with a nice, voluminous head of bone-white foam atop an opaque, deep-yellow beer, this unfortunately doesn't present with much in the way of lace or legs. It's just a solid pour from one of the bigger players in the regional Greater Boston area beer producers. I don't think it stands out, but it is alright for what it is.
Baby Shark features Hüll Melon and Barbe Rouge hops atop a very low ABV, basic-malt base, as the can describes. I am familiar with HM hops, but I don't think I've ever had a beer that utilizes Barbe Rouge. A cursory search indicates that this varietal is similar to Strisselspalt, another French hop, in berry and currant-like character, but it can have twice the alpha acid content. Very potent, indeed! The nose has a lot of unusual florals, melon, kiwi, and breadiness plus an odd dose of something that reminds me of diacetyl... yikes, not a great sign. Maybe something is weird with the fermentation here, or the hops are doing something strange, but I get a definite buttery-biscuit element that is inhibiting my enjoyment of this brew.
On the palate, I get a weird amount of butteriness as well. Very heavy and slick bodied with some flavors that feel uncharacteristic of Lamplighter. Chewy malt in a 3.7% ABV IPA should be difficult to do, yet here we are. Nah, this isn't doing it for me. Sure, there are some flavors of blackcurrant and red raspberry along with suggestions of cantaloupe and grapefruit peel, but the bitterness is heavy-handed and not very palatable, especially when taking into account the heavier-than-expected body. I really do think LL is capable of better than this, and I'm glad I only got a single can. I've had better from them within the past month or so, so I'll just assume this is a random failure, but it's quite a spectacular one. Almost nothing about this is up-to-par. Yikes.
