The pour to empty a pint can into a clear glass liter mug went beautifully. More precisely, there was no foamy stark white mess on the top of the beer, so no rants about wheat in this ale. But, there's almost no lacing inside the glass and this time, that's a true indication of this beer's lack of body. As for red, well, it's more like caramel colored. It's dull and opaque, but not murky. The head was nice, but short-lived. Maybe the malt outdoes the hops in the aroma, but there's nothing wrong with that. Neither is pronounced. It drinks pleasant enough, but pardon the word play, the hopping seems a little green for a red ale. There's no complexity and it tastes like it needed to be fermented longer. The malt sweetness of a red ale is shortchanged here and the hopping is only OK. Should a red ale be out of balance, it should be toward the malt side. This is not.. Even the body is too thin for any good ale, regardless of color. This may be drinkable, but it just isn't a good beer.
