Surprisingly good

Dark with tan head. No lacing. Cinnamon coconut variant. Sweet with char coconut cinnamon chocolate. Nice bitter char and coffee finish. Very fine beer.

 

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and very faint extremely dark cola brown highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted malts with moderate aromas of chocolate and dark fruit (raisin + plum).

T: Upfront there is a moderate to strong flavor of roasted malts with a hint of charred malts and a moderate flavor of chocolate malts. There is a light flavor of dark fruit (raisin + plum) without any real associated sweetness and a moderate flavor of bittersweet chocolate. Moderate to strong amounts of roasty bitterness in the finish which lingers for quite a while.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a hint of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Big bold rich roasty flavors and aromas make this one really enjoyable, though I think I might have enjoyed it even more curled up in front of a fire in the winter time. Drinks much easier than the 10.5% ABV that it is as the alcohol is extremely well hidden from the flavors and aromas. I'd be interested in trying some of the variants.
