A: Pours an opaque yet still clear, thick, viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark chestnut brown + dark brown + dark cola brown + dark garnet red colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy dark brown head that slowly reduces to a large patch of very thin film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Strong aromas of roasted + chocolate + caramel malts with a moderate amount of lactose sweetness along with moderate to strong aromas of coffee + hazelnut + vanilla + milk chocolate along with a light presence of sea salt. Very light aromas of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are strong flavors of roasted + chocolate + caramel malts with a moderate amount of lactose sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of coffee + hazelnut + vanilla + milk chocolate along with a light presence of sea salt. Finally there is a very light flavor of earthy hops. There is a light to moderate amount of roasty bitterness which fades away fairly quickly leaving lingering slightly sweet milk chocolate + coffee + hazelnut flavors.
M: Full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth, almost creamy with a hint of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength of the beer and the alcohol is pretty well hidden with just the slightest hint of warming in the finish. Very enjoyable dessert beer with really nice flavors and aromas from the coffee/hazelnut/chocolate/sea salt. Definitely a slow sipper but a beer I would gladly have again.
