500ml bottle bought from Baggot Street Wines, Dublin
Poured a deep coppery orange colour with a slight haze. Slightly off white head poured quite big and foamy then faded fairly quickly to wispy covering with thick edging... no carbonation at all... light patchy lacing...
Aroma - Lots of (over) ripe tropical fruits (blood orange, mangoes, grapefruits), strong piney resin, citrus and grassy hops, clove hints, some rubberiness, floral honey, very perfumed, oaky traces, faint chalky notes, light almond nuttiness, some booze...
Taste - Lots of strong piney and citrusy hop bitterness to the fore with some medicinal notes, quite herbal - hints of basil and rosemary, clove, very floral and perfumed, caramel malts come through after the hops, some brown sugar, spicy and juicy fruits (grapefruits, orange peel, pears), some chalkiness, some alcohol heat just coming through...
M&D - Fairly smooth with a little oiliness in the background then some sharpness comes through... medium bodied... probably couldn't drink too many of these in one sitting as the booze is maybe a little on the harsh side...
Overall - A very good if maybe a little boozy DIPA... my first brew from O Brother and i wasn't disappointed... recommended...
