Pours murky, reddish-brown in color with 3/4 inch head. Taste is grain, toasted malt, big rye, and grapefruit. There is a pleasant caramel and grain aftertaste that is slightly sweet. Sharp and bitter for the style, medium bodied, with high carbonation. Makes for an average to slightly above average rye beer. Not bad, but there are several others I prefer.

Deep amber color, bordering on brown, and apparently clear. Moderate head but it lasts. Abundant chunky ring lace.
First impressions of the smell: molasses and darker toasted breads.
The flavor is more hoppy and has a strong yeasty bite. The taste is dry enough to provide additional bitterness. The finish is short lived but flavorful. Moderate body but with a lower effervescence. This is a subtle Rye beer. There isn't the lip smacking dryness but it does border on astringent.

Pours a mild fizzy 1/2 finger head that fade at a med pace, decent lacing, semi clear semi hazy auburn iced tea brown color.
Nose fair sweet-like malt, toasted reddish malt, caramel, touch nutty, fair spicy peppery rye, into spicy hops, a touch chewy hop character and a little citrus orange character, some fruity rye notes. Pretty much typical West Coast hoppy red ale with a little rye.
Taste brings more of the same, toasted reddish malts, a little caramel maybe toffee, but somehow not syrupy, a little sweet but also dry with nice hop balance. Fairly big hops, spicy mostly, some more citrus, orange peel, a bit fruity, quite bitter, rye bringing some of the interesting fruity flavors, and a fair amount of a spicy-pepper rye. Finish is very bitter, very spicy hop, a little sticky caramel reddish malt.
Mouth is med to lighter bod, nice balance, medium to higher carb.
Overall not bad, a very typical West Coast hoppy red ale with decent rye character, nice in between style of red IPA and rye ipa and hits both styles fairly well. Despite the big malt characters not too sweet sticky or syrupy, first review it seemed a bit malty-sweet, but the extra dry hops seem to balance it more and it comes through nicely now.

Picked this up at the brewery today. I'd never heard of Ahtahum hops before...had to ask Dave how to spell that one.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice reddish copper hue with an enormous three finger off white head that fades very, very slow to leave loads of side lacing and about a one finger thick blanket. This is one of, if not the best appearance for one of Dave's brews. Wow.
S - Aromas of light spicy rye, nice light dankness, some very light grassy notes, faint pine and citrus, nice red malts, faint sweetness, little bit of melon/stone fruit. Rather subtle.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, more of that spicy rye with a really solid bitter finish. The hops though...they're so, so subtle. Very nice grassy hops along with some nice light malt sweetness. Nice light dankness and little bit of floral thing going on. Tasty with a nice lingering bitterness.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, a little fluffy.
O - Overall this beer had a phenomenal appearance, I just wish the hops popped more. The subtleness is really the only flaw here, other than that it is a solid brew.
