Light brown color and crystal clear. Excellent ring lace from the moderate head. Great streaks in between.
Chalky, mostly sweet powdered cocoa nose. There's a light smokiness to the beer.
Dry and darker cocoa than the smell indicates. The smokiness is stronger as well. Long dark malty finish with enough bitterness to create a great balance. There's also a touch of black patent malt. A bit watery but that might be the product of the low carbonation. Overall, this is a very interesting, yet close to traditional, Porter.

Picked up at the brewery.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown hue with a thin white head that fades to leave a thin blanket.
S - Aromas of nice roast malts with a little bit of caramel.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice caramel, light chocolate, some very nice roast. The hops are lightly spicy, nice English hops.
M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, crisp, clean.
O - Overall this was a rather solid porter. Nice hop presence with good roasted malts.

Nice creamy smaller head fades decent lacing, super dark almost black color
Nose dark roasted like malts, plenty of milk chocolate, rich cocoa, little caramel, faint biscuity cereal cookie dough,
Taste brings creamy milk chocolate, oats, cocoa, little earthy spicy hop mixed in nicely, some caramel and little biscuity, mild roast and hint of char. Fair bitterness, nice earthy hoppy finish, little caramel cocoa lingering.
Mouth is med bod, decent carb
Overall pretty nice, well done blend of earthy spicy hops and nice milk chocolate roast and caramel, pretty tasty.

I've been decently impressed by the Flying Dreams stuff I've had, so I figured I'd see how they'd handle an Autumnal porter. The pretense of making an "anti-pumpkin" beer for the season is a little silly, but let's give this a shot.
Pours a surprisingly clear brown-hued garnet color with a couple fingers of mildly retentive head that laces in uneven splotches. The head bubbles away pretty quickly for the most part and the color is definitely more of a "brown porter" than any other kind of more robust porter. Loving the clarity here, and I've actually felt like the other beer I've had from FD has been surprisingly great looking. I wish this were a little darker, as it definitely seems like more of a brown ale, but it's decent enough looking.
Nose is caramel, chestnut/hazelnut and slight spicy qualities. A bit of a yeasty semi-phenolic kick and some sharp ethanol coming out too. Definitely leaning towards the brown porter side of things. A bit bready with some slight roasty notes and a bit of herbal hop character. Nothing exciting but decent enough for what it is.
Flavor is pretty similar though the bitterness from the hops comes across pretty strong and sticky, with a lingering quality that hits the tongue in the middle of the palate. Bready malts, caramel and a definite herbal component. Maybe English hops at play here, and this feels pretty "English" in general.
Feel is a bit too carbonated and effervescent for me with a light-leaning body that finishes a little watery. It's not bad, and I like the semi-roasty flavor and slight sweet balance to the herbal/leafy hops, but it could probably be pushed a bit more.

Anti-Pumpking Porter is a beer brewed to counter all of the pumpkin beers that are brewed in the fall, so says the employee at the brewery. It is very roasty - and more like a brown in my book. The look is a hazy dark brown color with minimal head. The smell is nutty, roasted malts, walnut aroma. The taste is again all brown and true to the nose. The feel is extreamly easy to drink. Another excellent beer from Flying Dreams, quickly becoming a top brewery in MA.
