Another style I love if done well, so hopefully this does, and i know Dave is definitely capable of nailing a good style. Bottled picked up 2 days ago at the brewery
Pours a nice frothy creamy thicker 1/2 finger head that fades at a med pace, big soapy lacing, clear but dark mahogany auburn brown with maroon hue.
Nose is very sweet, big sweet toasted brown malts, loads of caramel, toffee, brown sugar molasses, candied wheat malt, caramelized sugars, mild biscuity note, with some mild fruity esters, a touch of fig date like but not much, a little buttery toffee biscotti, almost cola syrup like aroma too.
Taste brings more sweet flavors, sweet malt, toasted brown malt, a little biscuity, lots of caramel and caramelized sugars, this time a lot more malt derived fruity ester raisiny flavors, a little date and fig notes, more brown sugar molasses as well, a little booze warmth and alcohol, a touch of sticky malt and buttery toffee, a touch of grassy hops as well with mild bitterness, soft smooth lagering. Sticky sweet finish, little more bitterness, biscuity toffee and lots of caramel lingering, a touch of raisin too.
Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit creamy and thicker, nice carbonation, a hint of warming booze, little thick caramel feel.
Overall not bad, I was expecting a bit more, nice kettle caramelizations and sweet flavors but a bit too sweet overall, would have liked the fruity esters to come through a bit more, nice lagering but too sweet in general, pretty good though.

Picked up a bottle of this at the brewery
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice crystal clear deep chestnut hue with a thin one finger off white head that faded to leave a thin, thin blanket and a light halo.
S - Aromas of nice sweeter caramel, roast malts, almost dunkel like, light fruitiness with some very, very faint chocolate.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, light caramel notes, good lightly roasty malts. Sweetness is not cloying, good light chocolate notes with some subtle fruitiness. Very clean and traditional. Alcohol completely hidden.
M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, crisp, clean, alcohol hidden completely. Very, very well done.
O - Overall this was a very solid representation of the style which is what Dave seems to be able to do without batting an eyelash. Good, quality, true to style beers. Well done sir.
