Been a while since I checked in with Flying Dreams Brewing out of Worcester, MA. Honestly, this guy's stuff has been quite impressive to me despite his lackluster packaging and dearth of information on the beers themselves. Luckily, FD's website informs me that this is a 9%, 92 IBU DIPA featuring Bravo, Amarillo, Citra, Kohatu and Columbus hops. Cool hop bill. I've never had a big IPA from this little brewery, so I'm excited to give this one a try! Full disclosure: I'm pretty sure my bottle of this is two or more months old at this point, and I will be taking that into account lightly... mostly just to see how it holds up. I anticipate it'll be fine, but figured I'd mention it early in my review in case anyone wants to discount my opinion right off the bat.
Pour is a brilliant, hazy orange color with a huge head of bone-white foam that barely ever lets up. Decent amount of particulate hop matter floating around the nigh-impenetrable body of this brew. Great appearance here; the lace is spot-on, the head is creamy and dense with an unparalleled consistency.
Nose is pithy citrus, light tropical fruit and dank notes of pine resin and freshly-cut grass. I get a little bit of stone fruit here too. A nicely warming ethanol heat comes across in the nose, alongside some spice and earthy notes reminding me of rye malt. Some caramel and bready malts in there too, but this is certainly hop forward even with some time on it. Passion fruit, papaya, tangerine and red grapefruit are the most outstanding elements to my senses.
On the tongue, this has a slick bitterness, quickly flashing on the tongue with bright mango, papaya and apricot. A playful grain bill showcases light caramel malts and some fresh-baked bread flavors before switching back over to pine, resin, tangerine and grapefruit toward the finish. Very piney and spicy in the finish, kind of balancing the sweet, ripe passion fruit/tropical elements from the initial sip. That said, this does have a "fruit cocktail"-like element that pervades the entirety of the palate to some extent, so I would say it's right in the middle of old-school DIPA and new-school "juicy, tropical, hazy" IPA. Pretty great stuff here, not gonna lie.
The feel is hefty and definitely drinks like a bigger beer. The closing hit of ethanol is a bit of a surprise, then, because my first few sips were awash with intense tropical and citrus flavors. As this warms, it starts to take on a character that demands slightly more, err... respect, I guess. The carbonation here is fairly massaging and moderated, but it does its job and lets the hops kind of lead the way. Overall, a fun double IPA that gets me interested in future offerings in this style by this brewery. I'm also very happy with how this is with some time on it. Doesn't seem to have fallen off much at all if you take other reviews for it into account. I'll have to have it fresh some time to compare!

Picked up a bottle of this at the brewery.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice crystal clear amber hue with a two finger rocky white head that fades slowly to leave sticky lacing and a dense creamy blanket.
S - Aromas of nice tangerine, pleasant citrus peel. Light caramel malt sweetness. Very light tropical notes along with some light floral notes as well. Little bit of candied orange too. No discernible alcohol.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice sweet candied oranges, but not overly so. There is some nice almost over ripe pineapple flavour, little bit of melon. I get a floral and minty taste too. Subtle but there. Interesting. It's a fun flavour profile for sure, citrus, tropical, grassy, melon. Solid malt backbone without being 'in your face' malty. Alcohol is hidden very nicely and the finish is surprisingly mellow.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, crisp, no alcohol. Slightly bitter. Could use a bit more carbonation for my tastes.
O - Overall this was a very nicely done DIPA from Dave. Excellent appearance with a rather fun hop bill. Alcohol is hidden very, very nicely.
