Dark honey hued body topped with a two-finger thick, white head; yeast cloudiness (the beer is bottle conditioned). Caramel and toffee smell. Sweet tea-like flavor with a dull caramel sweetness; butterscotch. Medium-heavy body; rich and smooth; a bit astringent; semi-dry finish.

Not ever having yerba maté, I wasn't sure what to expect. There is a bold, tea-like quality to this beer that I assume relates to the yerba maté leaves. Diacetyl notes are here and seem okay yet it makes for a strange blend with the maté. Not bad, just strange. I am glad to have tried this beer but won't rush out to hunt down another bottle.
