Hazy, opaque dark brown body; thick, sticky, light tan head; fingers of lacing along the glass. Coffee ground smell; sweet chocolate; somewhat spicy. Roasted grain flavor with a strongly building chili flavor; mild coffee and chocolate flavors (much like the aroma) also in the mix. Medium body; soft (almost watery) on the palate; fair amount of chili heat; nice combination of malt sweetness with chili dryness on the palate.

One of the better coffee/chili dark beers out there. The chili heat stands out prominently yet is nicely balanced with some luscious dark malt sweetness. And you can't forget the coffee character, which stands out in the aroma yet lingers nicely in the background on the taste side of things.

Local Relic pretty much excels in the dark ale arena. This offering continues to reinforce this impression. A fine offering for stout and/or chili beer aficionados.
