Deep, dark brown body; thick, rocky, lasting head. Strong coffee aroma; dark chocolate; charred grains. Huge coffee and bitter chocolate flavors with a good smack of cinnamon spice; vanilla; some boozy flavors adding another dimension. Heavy body; sweet yet tempered with alcohol and grain husk dryness.
I'd rate the "Look" higher except for the fact that the beer, although not a gusher, was damn close to it. It seems to be a major problem with Local Relic of late. Regardless, no beer was lost and then everything else just falls into place for a beer that basically delivers on what its name implies. Local Relic shines with high gravity dark ales and this offering reinforces this idea. It's lush and rich in smell and taste and nicely balances the coffee and cinnamon components against the imperial porter base. Get some while you can...
