With a rich, peaty nose and remarkably fine carbonation, this is a treasure to behold. A moderate smoke on the palate shows enough peat character to provide depth without being overwhelming, balancing well against the hearty Scottish malt. This beer shows the finesse and well-tempered nuance that Local Relic has become known for.

Dark, orange-copper colored body; initial soapy head that quickly dissipates to a bare wisp of foam around the glass. Caramel and fruit aroma in the nose; fresh cut apple (not green). Weak flavor all around; a bit of caramel; a strangled attempt at peated malt. Heavy yet flat and watery body.
I had high hopes for this beer because Local Relic generally nails big, malty beers. This one falls flat (literally) with hardly any semblance of a Scotch wee heavy ale and an almost total lack of any peat presence. Big disappointment.
