A moderately intense malt forward brew, relatively true to the Munich style, originally brewed for fasting friars (remember, beer has food value, but food has no beer value!) A rich but clean body, malt-y without too much roastiness or bitterness, a touch of sweet balanced by a gentle noble hop mid-palate, a beautiful example of a lesser-executed style.

Fine looking doppelbock, brownish body with a touch of mahogany; thick, creamy head; sticky rings of lacing inside the glass. Strong malt aroma; some notes of chocolate. Huge roasted grain flavor interspersed with elements of chocolate and mild alcohol presence; nice level of bitterness to balance things out. Heavy body; slick and oily; warm with a great residual sugar heft.
One of the best doppelbocks I've come across in a long, long time. This is batch 425 from Local Relic and one of only 69 bottles produced.
