Jet black, opaque body; thin yet lasting head, semi-creamy, khaki colored; spidery fingers of lacing noted. Decent smell; dark malts and cocoa; oak aroma; slightly boozy. Boozy taste; whiskey and cocoa. Heavy, silky body; slippery; moderate alcohol heat; nice residual sugar feel.
What we have here is another big, boozy beer from the brewery. It's not they're best effort, but better than a lot of them. In this case, some aging might tame the rye whiskey barrel aging element a bit. It's not over-the-top, yet could stand some mellowing. The base beer is phenomenal.
