Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip.
Appearance: rich golden hue with a little bit of haze and a lazy effervescence. Head is a finger of creamy ivory foam; it's quite good.
Smell: sweet, with a fair dose of alcohol heat and a bit of a pear/apple character. The chocolate is present, but it's very, very light. Overall not bad, but the alcohol heat is a little much for me.
Taste: bready and sweet with more of that same alcohol heat. The chocolate comes through a little bit, again, but it is super subtle. I want to like this beer more, but the alcohol is just too forward for my taste.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a moderate carbonation and decent creaminess.
Overall: this beer has some things going for it, but it's too boozy to be really drinkable. In my opinion it's misclassified here and should be considered a Belgian strong pale ale.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.
Pours a murky orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, dried citrus peel, fruit, yeast, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, earth, fruit, spice, and slight white chocolate flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer with a white chocolate presence that is only in the taste, and even then it is quite subtle.
Serving type: on tap.
