Poured brownish amber, more amber than brown with about 1/2 inch of off white head. It looked pretty good, the head stayed around for the meal and the brew was quite clear. The color reminded me of Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale, or whatever it's called... and that's kinda what I expected for the rest of the brew. It smelled pretty good too, the spices were perfect for my liking, a little bit heavier than other pumpking beers. The pumpkin was heavier too, and that was enjoyable, and all that fell behind it was a thin layer of malt. It tasted good in some ways and bad in others, making it about average. It's not a terrible tasting pumpking ale, like some i've tried. The spices really hit the spot, but nothing stops an alcohol taste from taking over. It reminds me a little bit of old pumpkins with the off flavors. I think if they toned it down to 4-5%, they would have a rockin' beer here. The mouthfeel was hurt considerably by the lack of body and the alcohol twang and this in turn made it less drinkable. If it was a little thicker from unfermentables, and the spices stayed the same, i would probably love this beer.
