Formerly: Jedi Juice

Hazy, juicy and with a citrusy hop aroma – finishing off with intense flavour and a great mouthfeel. Featuring Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, Citra and Mosaic hops – this beer will bring out the Jedi in everyone. Unfined and unfiltered, the J Juice pours quite hazy in the glass with a bright orange colour.

Hazy lemon golden yellow, with five fingers of frothy white head.

The smell was of tropical fruit, lemon, soft notes pineapple, Iychee, lemon custard and green earthy notes.

The taste followed to nose.

Medium body with a slight sticky feel and moderate carbonation.

I got this in Phuket Thailand where I am drinking it June 13, 2022.

Keeping up the NEIPA (New England India Pale Ale) roll I’m on next up is Hop Nation Jedi Juice NEIPA. Whilst I’m not sure about the Star Wars reference in the name, the hop bill reads like a list of superstar hops: Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, Citra and Mosaic. Yep, if someone told me they were brewing with those hops I might have to conjure up my best James Earl Jones impression with an “Impressive... most impressive”. Yes I am a Star Wars nerd, whatever - I don’t give a Wookie what you think. Also Princess Leia on the can with tattoos? Yeah, not attractive, but she does love hops so her character is totally redeemable in my eyes. Anyhow this brew is well poised to capture my tastebuds like the Imperial forces descending on Hoth, there’s no escape this time rebel tastebud scum!

Poured from a 375ml can into a nonic pint.

A: Looks almost exactly like my previous review brew: 3 Ravens Lemon Juicy - cloudy AF mango-coloured body with a boisterous white cappuccino head that slowly drops back. However this one has much better protein action going on in the head which leaves a nice chalky lace on the side of the glass. 9/10.

S: BIG hop character in Jedi Juice - it’s fresh (brewed 30 Oct 17, yeah!) and chock full of green, grassy, cannabis hop notes. I could’ve sworn I just opened a bag of hop pellets and dropped it in front of my glass - that’s the kind of aroma I’m talking about here. If there’s a glimmer of fruit in all this green hop gloriousness and that fruit would be mandarin... maybe a dash of mango. This is right up my (hop) alley though. 9/10.

T: Interesting, most interesting. This is like an east (coast, US) meets west (coast, US) IPA with that NEIPA style cloudy, heavy and textured body with assertive west coast hops. There’s none of the fruitiness I’ve come to associate with a NEIPA, just grassy/green/cannabis/piney/earthy hops with a hint of citrus. This actually reminds me of Modus Operandi’s Zoo Feeder... Zoo Feeder was a bit of that mix. Finish is mid to high in bitterness, nonetheless this is pretty tasty - it’s a bit like Hop Nation brewed off more than I can chew. I like it. 8/10.

M: Medium to heavy bodied, hop oils aplenty, dense but light carbonation. 9/10.

D: Very tasty stuff, quite hop tea green, to its detriment one might imagine... however I do love hops - as is well documented. The balance was just a bit out - a bit too skewed towards hops, and those hops were “in yo face!”. 9/10.

Food match: With hops this spicy the food needs to be as well: Shredded chilli beef.
