On tap at Zebulon in Weaverville NC, into a becher pint.
Pours a rich, dark gold with some good offwhite foam. Aroma is mandarin oranges, pine, rosemary, and juicy grapefruit. Flavor is heavy on the grapefruit and rosemary, with the pine being a little secondary. I get some juniper as well and it's smoothly, deliciously bitter. Amber malts come in on the back end to smooth out the bitterness and it ends a little sticky but very clean. Feel is great, just heavy enough to seem like an IPA but very easy drinking with a crazy long finish.
Overall, this reminds me of 3Floyds, especially Zombie Ice, but with a much smoother, more restrained bitterness, much more complexity, and a lot better mouthfeel. The sort of heavy grapefruit and malt forward combination is extremely familiar but so much more refined here. What a beautiful beer.
