This is not a modern IPA, it’s not even a vintage west coast IPA, this is IPA as it tasted back when it was actually shipped to India. 100% Maris Otter pale malt and an eye watering 160 calculated IBUs of traditional East Kent Goldings hops. Aged in oak barrels with Brettanomyces for a full year then dry hopped with even more Goldings hops. The aroma is like a Christmas cake with orange marmalade, gingerbread and warm spices. It’s definitely funky from the Brett but not in the typical “barnyard” way. The funk flavor battles it out with mouth coating hop resin and a bit of oak tannins. Unbelievably complex yet surprisingly drinkable.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from the Appalachian Vintner 6-21-23 for $13.49. Bottled i believe in June 2023; consumed 3-11-24.

Beer poured deep gold with a nice white head.

Nose is very nice, full of citrus funkiness.

Taste is really well done as the medium pale malts take on an aggressive orange and grapefruit flavor profile with a nice tartness from the journey in the oak barrels. Finishes with a nice piney bitterness; 8/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.

Overall a really well done old-timey IPA!

This is such a nice beer. Purchased a bottle of this beer at a local bottle shop in Asheville.

Poured into a tulip glass. Slightly murky golden yellow color with a thick creamy white head and great lacing. Funky, slightly tart fruit smell and taste. Floral and herbal flavors - so well blended, making it a pleasure to drink. Bit of cinnamon and white pepper.Nice tart bitter finish. Nice smooth taste and feel. Excellent beer.
