Appearance: Pours out a clear mahogany color with a three finger khaki head forming after the bubble show; excellent persistence though the head grows rocky; splotches of lace
Smell: Leathery funk, toasted dark bread and a hint of coffee
Taste: Toasted dark bread forward with a funky, peppery element emerging; a touch of coffee, after the swallow, with the leathery funk driving it home; black pepper lingers in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation
Overall: First bottle from the Tardis Society series and a fascinating brew; it reminds me of some of the work New Glarus did with old English porters but this goes even further back in time

I love the concept behind this beer - to brew as closely as possible beers from history. This beer is part of a box I purchased at the brewery this past Christmas season that represents porter from 1780 to 1975. This is my first from the box; the one with the earliest date.
Poured into a special “Tardis Society “ high stemmed tulip glass. Rich dark brown color with a creamy beige head and excellent curtain lacing. Wonderful funky, smokey chocolatey smell and taste. Spicy finish some cinnamon and black pepper. I love the funky dark, toasty flavor. Nice smooth feel. This is an excellent beer that I would drink regularly if I had the chance!
