Appearance: Pours a clear coffee color with a one finger head that fades to a ringlet and archipelago; streaks of lacing
Smell: Funky roasted malt tones with earthy hop and hints of molasses, coffee and a faint Baker's chocolate aspect
Taste: Funk and roast forward with an earthy, tea-like flavor developing; a touch of molasses and chocolate underneath; funky and vaguely herbal finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: While I liked the impact of the Brett in the 1780 beer, this one is not really doing it for me; I don't care for the herbaceous finish in conjunction with the malty flavors

The second period beer in this boxed set of historic porters. This one not as much to my liking as the 1780 Brown Beer.
Poured into the Teku glass provided with the boxed set. Clear dark brown color with brief beige head and little lacing. Slightly funky roasted malt smell and taste. Mild chocolate flavor with a bit of molasses sweetness. Light feel. This is a good beer but not one I would want on a regular basis.
