Pours a dark brown/black brown showing around the edges, big fluffy tan head.
Aroma is light chocolate, coffee hints of caramel.
Taste is light can imagine at 2.7% while light is favorable but more like a Schwarzbier then a porter. If this is what the war reduced porters too due to rationing of malt one can see why stouts took over and porters fell to the way side until later in the century.
Mouthfeel is light crisp pretty carbonated hard to pour with out a huge head.
Overall since this is brewed as a historical style for porters ranging from 1780 to 1975 its hard to knock it to bad due to our supply of over malted big ass beers of today.

Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a three finger head; somewhat fizzy and, while it takes a while to descend, it leaves a few shards of lace
Smell: Chocolate with a hint of caramel and coffee
Taste: Chocolate malt forward with just a touch of caramel and coffee; the finish is rather watery
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate to high carbonation; watery
Overall: Easy drinking but I can see why this was a low point for the style

This is five of six bottles of the English porter box purchased this past Christmas.
Poured into the provided teku glass. Very dark clear brown color with a good initial beige head and decent lacing. Kinda weak chocolate smell and taste. Some dark berry and roasted malt. A bit thin. Least favorite of the box. It would be interesting to know what the attitude would be to this beer if you could actually take t back to 1922!
