This was stop #3 on a pub crawl through parts of Oregon while my wife and I were on vacation. We stopped here just to try the beers, although this place is also a restaurant. It's billed as a sports bar, and that is mostly what the interior vibe is all about. Sports memorabilia is all over the walls, and a few small TVs are showing sports action. Some lottery-style electronic games were receiving some action. A patio located at the front of the building but I did not look out there to see how inviting it might be. A wall surrounds it so it is not visible from the outside. Some construction of a new bar was occurring at the rear of the restaurant around some new brewing equipment that looks like it is in the process of being installed says that this old sports pub is transitioning into a brewpub and brewing their own beer. Remodeling may be overdue because it is rather obvious from the occasional smoke and old grease odors in the place that something is also needed to improve the ventilation. Maybe the aromas from the brewing process with help out.
We ordered a sampler flight of the 10 beers that were on tap to get an idea of the overall beer quality. It turns out that all of the beers are brewed to style, and no flaws were noted. Most of the beers were just average or a little better, but we thought that the Pious Pils was one of the best crafted pilseners that we've ever experienced, and the KO Stout was also notable. Overall, we scored the beers at a C+ grade. With new equipment being installed (assuming it's new) the quality of the beers could be different from the first usage and dialing in the recipes, so be aware that my comments could be off from new reality in the future. A few other guest taps at the bar included some craft beers as well as macros, plus liquor and wine is available.
We did not have anything to eat. There is a good-sized menu, but we couldn't get past the stuff old grease smells to decide if the food has a chance of being any good. Old grease often can lead to tasty food, but you're on your own if you come here to eat. I can't give you any guidance.
It's an interesting place, and I hope the new equipment means a commitment to good craft beer. The place is worth a visit, but be aware that things may change.
