Come fly with us through fields of sticky, pungent hops with Dank Sinatra, a crush-worthy crooner of a double IPA. Each can is loaded with heaping handfuls of Simcoe and Citra for gigantic aromatics, and balanced with a hint of hazy, earthy spice from generous amounts of flaked rye.

Mile haze to the dirty gold color. Minor head but good lacing of spots and streaks.

Semisweet and fruity to the nose. Very mild.

The flavor is surprising. It's dry and earthy with black pepper hoppy finish. The carbonation is low but so is the body...slightly. The finish is similar to the start with a muddy swallow and more peppery bitterness that tends to linger quietly for a long time.

Popped onto my phone on a day off from work to see that this was getting released when the taproom opened, which happened to be in just about an hour from when I saw the post. With me being approximately an hour away from the brewery and with not much to do for several hours, I figured it must have been fate which led me to this four-pack of Dank Sinatra, a rye double IPA brewed with Simcoe and Citra hops, clocking in at 8.2%. As this was just released a mere 6 hours ago, it is insanely fresh... canned 11/6/17, two days before this review!

Pours a sorta-hazy golden-yellow color with a thin but retentive head of bone-white foam that leaves behind pretty nice sheets of tiered lace as it drinks. Surface is spotty and a little obscured by suds, kind of like how the beer is really only semi-translucent. As such, I can see the bubbles forming, rising swiftly and consistently to the top of my glass.

Nose is, well, dank. Simcoe and Citra are both very oily and resinous hops (and both known for their "cat pee"-like aromatic qualities, to boot), and they really work to bring out a catty, pine-y, grassy and earthy scent to this big brew. I get notes of forest floor, pine needle/sap, funky/spicy rye and white grapefruit rind here, with some backing orange peel and an almost mushroom-like element. Super unique and evocative. Won't be forgetting this one any time soon. Though some of the descriptors I use here no doubt seem odd, this really does come together exceptionally-well. Your mileage will vary depending on how much the Simcoe/Citra combo appeals to you. I have no issue with them (alone or in tandem), but just giving some fair warning.

Palate is pretty similar to what I expected from the nose. I get a big hit of earthy rye, light toasty malt, grapefruit, light floral notes and a wallop of pine-y bitterness, pretty much in that order. Super grassy and oily. The body is a bit bigger than most modern DIPAs, but that's likely due to the high hopping rate, use of high-alpha/oil-focused hop varietals and use of flaked rye instead of (or in addition to, not sure) malted rye. Carbonation is on the finer side of things; not bright or effervescent but just massaging enough to push the flavors along on the tongue. Finish is slick and fairly dry, though some lightly-sweet malt notes are present in the post-swallow. Super drinkable for how intensely flavored it is. Pumped I have more. I assume this opens up a bit over the several weeks after canning, but it seems quite great fresh. Get on it, Boston-area hopheads!

Tall can, a bunch of things printed on the bottom , but a date that I can make sense of is not one of em...

Pours hazed typical amber, khaki cap, leaves moderate fine lacing. Much more cloudy final pour.

Slight resiny/citric hop nose

Densly hopped up and yes, dank, More hop resins, some whisky, some rye....complex, tasty, big and bold...worth a try

Pours a hazy orange amber color with a 2 fingers off-white head. The head settles into a thin film leaving tons of lacing along the way.

The aroma is amazing. Waves of citrus followed by a second wave of piney hop oils, with plenty of spicy, peppery bread on the back end.

The flavor is more subtle than the nose lead on. Sweet citrus notes are followed by some caramel and sweet dough. Finishes with a subtle rye note. Good balance.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Creamy and smooth, yet a tad sticky.

Overall, a very good DIPA that unfortunately didn't taste as good as the amazing nose had indicated. Still, it's well balanced and exceptionally drinkable despite the high abv.

Pours cloudy amber with a thin head
The simcoe and citra hop smell is very apparent as it's poured.
The slight bite at the start smooths out to a very drinkable rye DIPA
Balanced and slightly sticky finish that is a bit on the dry eye tasting side.
I liked it and would have it again and again. The bottom of the can stamp said 11/18. The dankness cometh.
