L- Dark straw amber beer with a decent quarter inch head that dissipates quickly. Looks okay.
S-Saffron, piney and sweet citrusy hop aromas are very much present. Very sweet and strong aroma that lasts long in the nose. Smells great.
T- Bitter from the hop, sweet malt, nice spicy and floral saffron, and an earthy flavor that I can't quite put my finger on. Extremely tasty.
F- Crisp but sticky to the tongue.
O- A very well balanced and easy IPA. Very well made.

Purchased during a recent trip through Nashville.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Brownish yellow color with a good head and nice lacing. Floral and herbal smell and taste. A slightly sweet citrus taste. Rich feel. Tastes better as it warms a bit.

Pours a deep amber coloration with a medium, foamy head. Smell is quite sweet and floral, with an intoxicating saffron note and hints of citrus. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by a floral saffron note, but nicely balanced by slightly zesty citrus notes and a spicy cardamon note as well. A little biscuity malt and pine in there somewhere as well. Finishes with a light/medium bittersweet bitterness and more of that floral saffron coming through. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is quite an unusual, but very well executed beer. While it may be just a little too floral and unique for its own good, it's still nicely balanced and quite tasty in it's own way. Definitely one of the better beers with exotic spices I've had.

Looks like an IPA. Orange and flat hazy
Smells like juniper
Tastes like the juniper made its way into my beer
Feels medium bodied and fairly easy to drink.
Overall it seems to floral to enjoy. The juniper is too strong to be enjoyable. The taste fades to a dry finish and that gives it a somewhat redeemable quality. Fair, but let's change it up for the next one.

Thanks to Grizzarky for this one from NBS Bif #5. 12oz bottle poured into 10oz goblet. Poured poured a clean, clear golden amber color with just a thin cap of white head that dissipated quickly, and left very light lace.

The aroma had a solid malt base, with some citrusy hop notes. I'm not real familiar with saffron, so I suspect that the floral tones I get in the aroma, and on the tongue, come from that. Not really getting any of the cardamom the label says this beer contains. Pretty similar taste profile, a good, solid "traditional" American IPA, with a little something extra.

The body was fairly typical for the style, perhaps a touch on the light side, and finished semi-dry. Drinkability was nice, the beer went down easily and smoothly. Overall, a nicely solid beer, one that would be in my rotation if it were local to me. Worth trying if you see it.

Big thanks to Buck89 for this interesting and odd ale from NBS BIF 5

Pours a clear light amber with a quick to flee finger of foam that leaves a bare cap in four minutes. Active carb. is visible. Has a thick look.

Wow, there's the saffron front and center, with some grapefruit and citrus pith behind, accompanied by a light sourdough aroma that carries a touch of sweet. As it warms floral appears, perhaps a function of the saffron.

Full flavor with saffron the star that threatens to steal the show, in this case a potential disaster. Though it does end to build on palate, the saffron in this is a balanced accompanist for all the hop flavors of the aroma. The tart note and light alcohol spice give it a wine-like taste at times. A lot going on, and big changes in available flavors as it warms.

Highly viscous, low carb., a bit of resiny spice linger that isn't optimal. Worst feature.

Interesting beer, esp. as it would seem to be a ridiculous endeavor, since saffron needs to be used in exacting amounts, which beer makers likely can't afford to experiment with too often. A for effort for Mantra who seem to be doing good things.

Bottle into pint glass.

A: Pours a rich, near opaque copper with the slightest head that wears off pretty quick.

S: Saffron. HEAVY saffron. Plus a huge bowl of citrus fruits.

T: Nothing complicated. This one is exactly as advertised. A floral bomb of saffron followed shortly by some really excellent, piney bitterness. The two flavors don't really commingle. It's more like one, then the other.

M: Hoppy. Dry. Sinus-openingly fresh, like breathing in a snowy day in the forest.

O: I am totally unsure if saffron IPAs are even a mainstream thing in the craft beer world (are they?). Really cool concept and executed quite well. This brewery is doing some really great things.

12 oz bottle from Tennessee.
A fruity IPA with plenty of citrus peel and citrus juice in the aroma and flavor, together with saffron and cardamon. Aftertaste is a herbal, fruity and spicy.

Feel: Medium-full body is very smooth and well carbonated.

Poured from a bottle. Golden hue with small flecks of suspended solids. Decent head with heavy long lasting lacing. Saffron, mango, and pine on the nose. Saffron is minimal in the taste- a little but sweeter initially, then a drier after taste. Not many notes- just clean and crisp with a little saffron to stand out. Easy drinking beer, but with a bit of heft. Could have a few bottles in single sitting.

Just a clean crisp IPA with a mild saffron flavor to add interest.

Thick honey amber opacity. Minimal white head.

Nose is perfumey sweet with a certain amount of earthy pine and -- sure enough -- saffron.

Flavour follows the same simple yet enjoyable design. Sweet saffron meets incense/perfume/floral hops with some citrus and pine.

Thin but smoothe body, decent carbonation and a nice bitter finish.
The word that my brain keeps coming back to with this one is pleasant. This is a really pleasant and enjoyable IPA. The saffron lends it a slightly unique aspect, but blends well without jumping too far out and just getting weird. Really glad to have picked this one up.

This is a very solid beer. Pours a very light golden color with a decent head. Smells of citrus, pine, and saffron. The taste follows suit. Definite saffron and citrus flavors with light piney notes. Not overly hoppy for an IPA. Feel is very light and easy to drink. Overall, this is a very good beer for someone getting into IPAs.

On tap into a pint glass. Hazy dark golden straw with a one finger white head. The aroma was fresh saffron with some pine, orange, and white bread. Taste followed suit with pine up front, mildly bitter, and an understated spicy saffron tone. Dry finish.

I'm probably biased because I live a couple miles away from the brewery, but this one is a winner for me. Nice floral aroma with a slightly citrus flavor. Smooth, and not overly hoppy on the aftertaste.

With so many craft IPAs popping up on the market, this offering from Mantra is something different. Good different.

This one grew on me. Had several times, poured in Nashville. Bottles not available. More of a summer beer than winter, not much on malts, hops are airy, but quite successful marrying of flavors which come out as it warms. Looking forward to more for Mantra.
