Of all the beers I had at Oak Creek Brewery and Grill, this was my hands down favorite. One sip and I was blown away by the flavor combination. When they brought it I took one look and thought that I'd need to order an Oak Creek Amber to wash this back with. I didn't appear to be anything special since there was no head at all. I would have given it a 2.5 or 3 for that, since it is a wheat beer, but the color did earn it some respect, being a lovely amber color with an orange glow.

One smell and I realized that I my eyes had misjudged the beer. The vanilla bean comes through immediately and melds with the wheat. The dark wheat gives a caramel note to the scent profile and the mandarins are evident in the background.

Here I thought the smell was superb, but the taste is incredible. All the scents are evident on the tongue, but in a slightly different balance. The oranges come through a little stronger, but do not take over. They are so well-balanced with the nuttiness of the dark wheat and the vanilla. It almost tastes as if someone reworked a Nutty Buddy with vanilla bean and Creamsicle ice cream, drizzled it with caramel and sprinkled on some roasted peanuts.

The body is that of a high-quality dunkel weizen and it is just as refreshing and crisp. The aftertaste is predominantly vanilla. If you want another taste of the mandarin oranges just belch and they will be more evident than they even were in the beer. Pretty neat and fun for all in the restaurant. I wish I had thought to belch in my son's face to see if he could smell the oranges. LOL, just kidding...mostly.

My original thought when ordering this beer was to save the amber (which I love) for last so it would be the last thing I tasted on our last night in Sedona, but screw that! I want another one of these!
