Sampled on tap @ 1702, Tucson; April 2010
The beer arrives with a pale, ring of a head that is barely there. It has a clear, amber hue to it that shows touches of copper when held up to the light. The aroma is slightly buttery smelling up front, but and this becomes more apparent as I dig around in the nose. This smells exactly like something that I can't quite put my finger on; perhaps it is butter caramels, hmmm, no it is actually even more specific than that, it reminds me of Werther's Originals.
The flavor is dominated by a huge butterscotch note, but this manages to not be as bad as I would expect, or it is at least not revolting like many a diacetyl dominated beer typically is. This tastes like a Werther's too, but has a touch of toffee to it and some lightly toasted malt notes. There is a hint of bitterness that provides a light bite that doesn't quite get to being crisp. The beer s light bodied and fairly quaffable without being watery.
This is not actually all that bad considering how deeply flawed it is; it is sort of enjoyable, especially if you are the type that likes Werther's Originals candies.
